1. Building the Mail BoxStep 1Assemble the wooden box how you would like it to be. The sides of the box shown are 15.25 cm (6 in) long. The slats for the front of the box are 33 cm long 2.5 x .5 cm (9 in long 1 x .25 in). Mark the end of each front slat where a nail will go to hold the slats to the sides. There will be a total of six marks, one at the end of each slat. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 2Working with one mark at a time, drill a hole through the slat and slightly into the side board. Do not move the boards once the hole is drilled. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 3Place a finishing nail in the hole you just drilled and tap it into place. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the five remaining marks. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 4Once all six nails are installed for the front, place the bottom piece where it should go and mark where the nails will go to fasten it to the sides. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for these two nails. ![]() ![]() ![]() 2. Attaching the BoxStep 1Once the box is completed it is time to affix it to the back board. The first step is to apply a bit of wood glue to the back of the sides and bottom. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 2Now place the box portion onto that back board. Make sure to place the box in a location that allows for the hooks to be installed underneath. Clamp each side of the box to the board. Wipe any excess wood glue that might have oozed out of the seams. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 3Once these clamps are in place, flip the project over and locate where the bottom of the box is and mark two places for nails to be installed. These nails should go through the back board and into the bottom portion of the box to add more support to the box. Repeat steps 2 and 3 from the first section to install these nails. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 4Once the above step is completed, remove the clamps and use a tape measure to locate four more places on the back side of the project to install nails along the sides of the box.
