![]() ![]() ![]() Valentine's Day is coming up, and what better way to show your special someone how much you care than with a heart-shaped piñata filled with love notes? Easy to make and assemble, you'll have so much fun sharing this with your Valentine and watching them bust it open to reveal your sweet sentiments. Supplies![]() ![]() ![]()
Step 1: Create the Tab Strip![]() ![]() ![]() Download and print the piñata templates and cut out two large hearts (use the instructions on the template). Use card stock to cut a long strip approximately 84cm long and 11cm wide. Lightly score 2 lines, 1.5cm in from the long edges of the strip. These will form the piñata tabs. Using scissors, cut up the long edge (stopping at the scored line) to complete the tabs. Step 2: Assemble the Piñata![]() ![]() ![]() Stick double-sided tape around the edge of both hearts. Curve the tab strip along the edge of one heart, which will affix one side of tabs to the heart. When you get to the dip in the top of the heart, make a crease so the strip fits snugly along the edge. Affix the second heart to the remaining set of tabs. Step 3: Leave a Space for Piñata Filling![]() ![]() ![]() Leave a 3cm gap at the top to fill the piñata once it's ready. Step 4: Attach the Hanging String![]() ![]() ![]() Make 2 slices in the crease at the top of the heart. Using a long darning needle, thread the colored twine through the slices and knot it to form a hanging string. Step 5: Affix the Arrow Feathers![]() ![]() ![]() Cut out the feather template and transfer it to colored card stock to make four feathers. Cut the feathers out and fold along the dotted line. Use a hot glue gun to stick the feathers to one end of the dowel rod, alternating the colors. Step 6: Make Holes for the Arrow![]() ![]() ![]() Using a stanley knife, slice a cross in the bottom left side of the piñata. Slice another cross in the opposite side at the top of the piñata. Slide the arrow through the holes, with feathers at the bottom. Step 7: Complete the Arrow![]() ![]() ![]() Cut out the triangle template and transfer it to card stock. Cut two triangles. Use a hot glue gun or double-sided tape to attach the triangles to the top side of the arrow, sticking them around the dowel rod. Step 8: Fill the Piñata![]() ![]() ![]() Cut out the small heart template and transfer it to card stock. Cut as many hearts as you would like. Write love notes on each heart and put them inside the piñata. You can also add confetti, glitter, or any lightweight filling. Seal the gap in the piñata with masking tape or a small piece of card. Step 9: Stick Tape Along the Fringe![]() ![]() ![]() Stick double-sided tape along the top, uncut edge of the crepe paper fringe. This will make it easier to cover the piñata as opposed to sticking small pieces on individual fringe segments. Step 10: Cover the Piñata Strip![]() ![]() ![]() Starting from the bottom of the heart, start sticking fringe onto the tab strip, trimming it to fit. Cover one half of the strip, then start again from the bottom on the other side. When both sides are done, cover both heart faces, from bottom to top, trimming to fit. Step 11: Cover the Piñata Heart![]() ![]() ![]() When both sides of the tab strip are covered, affix fringe onto both heart faces, stick from bottom to top, trimming to fit the curves of the hearts. Step 12: Glue the Letters![]() ![]() ![]() Cut the letters from the template and transfer them to red card. Use a hot glue gun to affix them to the front of the piñata. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tell us, what are you doing for Valentine's Day? Are you making any special? Tell us in the comments section below. |
