1. Take Your MeasurementsMeasure around your waist, or where you would like the tulle skirt to sit. Write this measurement down. ![]() ![]() ![]() 2. Prepare the TulleStep 1Cut your tulle into one yard (one metre) sections. You should have six pieces of one metre tulle. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 2Place two pieces of tulle together so that the top raw edges are aligned. Starting 1in (1.5cm) from the right side, fold five-eighths of an inch (1cm) of fabric to form a pleat. Pin this in place. Continue along the top edge, folding and pinning until you reach the end of the top edge. At this point, check that the width of the tulle is as wide as your waist measurement, plus 2in (3cm). ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 3Sew along the top edge of the skirt. Sew five-eighths of an inch (1cm) from the top edge. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 4Fold the tulle in half so that the raw edges of the side seams are aligned. Pin and sew using a 1in (1.5cm) seam allowance. Repeat steps 1 to 4 with the other four layers of tulle. ![]() ![]() ![]() 3. Prepare the LiningStep 1Cut the lining one yard (1m) by 25in (63cm). ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 2Fold the lining fabric in half, right sides together. Pin and sew using a 1in (1.5cm) seam allowance. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 3Fold the bottom edge of the skirt up by 1in. Press with an iron. Fold the edge again by 1in. Press again. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 4Sew along the top edge of the folded hem. Sew as close to the folded edge as you can. ![]() ![]() ![]() 4. Prepare the ElasticStep 1Cut the elastic to your waist measurement plus 1in (1.5cm). ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 2Overlap two ends of the elastic to make a circle. Overlap the ends by 1in (1.5cm). Sew the elastic using a zig-zag stitch. ![]() ![]() ![]() 5. Assemble the SkirtStep 1Place the elastic inside one of the double layers of tulle, with the right side facing in. Pin and sew in place using a zig-zag stitch. Place the next double layer of tulle around the outside of the previous tulle layer (the previous layer should be on the inside). Pin and sew in place. Repeat for the last layer of tulle. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 2Place lining around the outside tulle layers (all of the previous layers should be on the inside). Pin, folding the lining fabric occasionally to make the lining fit the elastic. Sew in place using a zig-zag stitch. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 3Trim the bottom edges of the skirt so they are all the same length. ![]() ![]() ![]() Wear Your SkirtAnd you’re finished. Well done!
