In this DIY recycled craft tutorial, we will show you how to make a cute Pokemon Bulbasaur Planter out of Plastic Bottle. Let’s make this beautiful home decor element from your household waste. You may engage your kids to inspire them to recycle.
Summer is here with all the fun colors, juicy fruits, and craft ideas! So I’m starting my summer craft with these recycled Bulbasaur planters. I have tons of plastic cola bottles trashed in my storeroom (I LOVE coca-cola!) and was waiting for a super fun idea to hit. I’ve seen recycled plastic bottle planters everywhere! Though it’s nothing new but recycling plastic bottles for plants seemed like a win-win crafty idea. I get to recycle leftover materials and also get to plant something in them.
Besides, this craft project can inspire kids to recycle. I mean, who wouldn’t love to have a Pokemon planter! I’ve already made a list of all grass Pokemon characters. I’ll be recycling one bottle into a Pokemon character at a time!
How to Make a Pokemon Bulbasaur Planter out of Plastic Bottle
So, what are you waiting for! Grab some left over cola plastic bottles and get crafty!
Step 1: Prepare the Plastic Bottle
First of all, collect a plastic cola bottle; wash, clean and dry it before getting started with the craft project. I used a 500 ML coka-cola bottle. Next, determine the height for the Bulbasaur planter. Use a marker to trace the ears and the top end of the head for the Bulbasaur on the plastic bottle, at the determined height.
Step 2: Cut The Plastic Bottle
Use an x-acto knife to cut out the traced pattern by cutting along the traced line. Be careful in this step as the shape of the planter mostly depends on how neatly you’re cutting the bottle.
Step 3: Paint to Match the Color of Bulbasaur
Prepare the acrylic paint to match the color of Bulbasaur. I mixed white, blue and green acrylic paint; kept adding and mixing the colors until I was satisfied with the shade. Paint and cover the entire outer surface of the cutout bottle. Once the painting is done allow it to dry.
Step 4: Prepare the Pokémon Eyes
Instead of painting the eyes and other features of Bulbasaur directly on the bottle, I painted them on regular white paper and then cut them out. I’m not very good at painting on curvy surface, hence this technique! Draw and paint the eyes on white paper and cut out 3 random triangular patterns with round edges from green craft paper for the patterns on Bulbasaur’s head.
Step 5: Attach Pokémon Eyes
Take the painted Bulbasaur plastic bottle planter and stick the prepared yes and other patterns on it.
Step 6: Draw other Features and Finish the Planter
Use a black marker pen to draw the other features; the nose and the mouth and the fangs.
There! Add soil mix and then put your favorite plant to the soil.
