Make Valentine's Day even sweeter with these gorgeous customised tea bags. A stack of these heart teas with colorful clay charms would make a wonderful Valentine's Day gift - or a delightful addition to a hen's afternoon tea party!
1. Make the Clay Charms
Work the clay in your hands until it's soft and pliable.
Pinch a small piece of clay and press it into the mold. Don't be shy about pressing it in there because you need to completely fill the mold to get the shape details. Then carefully peel off the mold. If you don't have a mold you can also roll the clay out flat and use a cookie cutter or cut a shape freehand.
Cut away the excess clay around the shape. I found it was easy to just gently break these pieces off. Then bake the clay according to your package directions and let the charms cool.
2. Make the Heart Tea Bag
Before you start cutting, I highly recommend using a pen or marker to draw a heart outline on the tea bag. At least on the first one. Impulse crafters like myself will resist this but, trust me, you'll save a lot of ruined tea bags. Because the key here is to not open the tea bag on the sides!
OK, got the heart shape down? Now you can cut! Go easy around the top and sides to keep the bag together. The only hole you should be making is at the very top.
3. Attach the Charm
Cut or poke a small hole at the top of the tea bag and attach a short length of embroidery thread with a knot.
Hot glue the charm to the end of the string.
Enjoy a Cup of Tea
You can make a bundle of clever tea bags in no time - plenty to give as gifts and still have a few to enjoy yourself.
In this tutorial, you learned how to turn ordinary tea bags into a creative Valentine's Day gift. The clay charms add a colorful and personal touch.
